As a Non-Profit Society, NSR held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) last night at the Tim Jones Rescue Center in North Vancouver. During the AGM, board members and committee chairs delivered their annual reports to the membership, we welcomed a new full member to the team, and we held elections for our board of directors.
Some of the highlights from the annual reports included the initiations of a major radio communications project, major advancements in medical response capabilities, the development of a SAR member directed drone program, and the purchase of a new helicopter longline rescue system. Each and every project is ground breaking and will enhance the organizations ability to serve the community in a wide range of circumstances.
As previously noted, we also welcomed Dr. Alec Ritchie onto the team as a full member after two years as a Member-in-Training (MIT). Alec has been a dedicated MIT and valuable asset during rescue responses. He passed his annual evaluation with flying colours and received his coveted red jacket from team leader, Mike Danks; MIT Coordinator, Mike Sample; and training officer, Scott Merriman.
I would also like to extend a big thank you to our extraordinary MIT Coordinator, Mike Sample, for his hundreds of hours of work during the recruitment of new members, and ensuring they are properly trained and equipped. This work is time consuming, but fundamental to the teams operational capacity.
As for the election, with numerous board members stepping down after having served for many years, along with multiple contested positions, it was a great opportunity to see members step up to serve on the administrative side of the organization (still all volunteer!). We would like to thank our outgoing board members for their years of dedicated service to the team:
- Curtis Jones, Member-At-Large
- Roz Robinson, Communications & Administrations Officer
- Scott Merriman, Training Officer
- Simon Jackson, Truck Officer
Having noted the outgoing board members, I like to extend a big congrats (and Thank You) to the 2016/2017 executive committee of North Shore Rescue:
- Mike Danks, Team Leader
- Scott Campbell, Training Officer
- Ron Royston, Treasurer
- Dale Wiedman, Communications & Administrative Officer
- Jason McEwan, Truck Officer
- Jeff Yarnold, Equipment Officer
- Paul Markey, Member-At-Large
- Kayla Brolly, Social & Publications Officer
I would also like to congratulate our 3 new membership representatives on the Search Managers committee: Doug Reid, Mike Sample, and Simon Jackson. These members will sit on the committee and represent memberships interests on operational decision-making.
