This Saturday, members of North Shore Rescue participated in a highline workshop taught by NSR member and JIBC instructor, Bob Manson. Members practiced their skills at erecting a Kootney Carriage and English Reeve system. In a canyon or gully environment, highlines are essential for moving a subject across, or allowing for rescuers to be lowered to access a site in the middle of the canyon.
All members receive extensive rope rescue training, and every skillset is put to the test in erecting one of these systems. As such, this is an excellent training opportunity to stay on top of all rope rescue skills which may be called upon during a rescue. SAR teams are highly skilled at Mountain and Canyon rescue, this is one of many tools in the toolbox to save a life.
