NSR was contacted by the RCMP Sunday afternoon to help locate and evacuate a mountain biker who had gotten lost and was in a steep gulley. He had slid down into the gulley but was uninjured. Thankfully he not only had cell coverage to call out, but also had a Garmin GPS unit he used to relay his position to NSR. These coordinates allowed us to execute a rescue with limited resources and move right to his position in Mosquito Creek.
Despite having voice contact with him fairly quickly the steep gulley walls prevented our hasty team from getting to the subject for over 15 minutes. Once with the subject the evacuation plan changed from coming out the way they went in to moving uphill to the base of the “Cut” ski run on Grouse. Once again Grouse Resorts assisted in driving our members and the subject up the ski run to waiting NSR member vehicles for the ride out to the top of Mountain Highway. The biker was very appreciative of the team efforts to locate and help him out.
