NSR was activated shortly before noon on Dec 4 by Vancouver Police to search for a British tourist missing since Nov 25. Very minimal information for a possible sighting in the Dam area north of Grouse as a result of the media release on Dec 3 was basis for search initiation.
18 NSR members and Talon Helicopters began an aggressive air /and search deploying members into mountain pass areas and peaks in entire Lynn Headwaters Area etc to sign cut for tracks and sound sweep. Talons agile ASTAR helicopterwith NSR spotters performed low and slow gully searching in high probability gully drainages.
Shortly before darkness tracks were spotted in Crown Creek and all field teams moved into bracket form above and below. Numerous high intensity para flares launched into creek to trigger a response. SAR MGR Tim Jones called in RCAF 442 SQ Cormorant helicopter in darkness to perform an aerial over search using their powerful night vision to try a spot a light source.
Unfortunately no sign of this young man. NSR on standby until further information comes into Police.
