While North Shore Rescue has decided to move away from “live bait” swift water rescue, our members still receive training in downstream containment, river search, and general safety. On Tuesday night members received a lecture and practical session from our expert technicians.

While fire departments and other SAR teams still use traditional swimmers, NSR has moved to a kayak and aerial extraction system. This exposes fewer people to river hazard for a shorter period of time. It also ensures that only the most experienced swift water experts are ever in the water.

This technique has proven to be efficient and much safer than traditional methods.
